**Pigtail LC/UPC OM4 SX 0.9mm OFNR Aqua, semitight** from **Red Cable Technology (RCT)** is a simplex **OM4 50/125 multimode** pigtail for terminating fiber via fusion or mechanical splicing. It combines an **LC/UPC connector** with a **0.9mm aqua OFNR semitight-buffered** lead — a clean way to bring high-bandwidth OM4 into ODFs, fiber terminal boxes, and distribution boxes.

**Features & Specs:**

  • LC/UPC simplex pigtail, semitight-buffered 0.9mm construction with aqua OFNR jacket
  • OM4 50/125µm laser-optimized multimode fiber (LOMMF), designed for use with 850 nm VCSELs
  • LC connectors use a 1.25mm ferrule — approximately half the size of an SC connector — for good performance in a small form factor (SFF) package; the “little connector” built to join fibers where connection and disconnection are required
  • UPC connectors are blue (APC connectors are green); UPC is polished with no angle — not exactly flat, with a slight curvature for better core alignment
  • OM4’s suggested jacket color is aqua; it is a further improvement to OM3, using the same 50µm core while supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet at lengths up to 550 meters and 100 Gigabit Ethernet at lengths up to 150 meters

## Terminating fiber with pigtails

Fiber optic pigtails are utilized to terminate fiber optic cables via fusion or mechanical splicing, and high-quality pigtail cables paired with correct fusion splicing practices offer the best performance possible for fiber optic cable terminations. You’ll find them in fiber optic management equipment like ODFs, fiber terminal boxes, and distribution boxes.

## Standards notes

G.657A1 is the de facto standard for bend-insensitive NDSF singlemode fiber for premises cabling, thanks to its optimized performance and cost balance. Minimum bending radii can be optimized, but that sacrifices fiber attenuation and cost. ITU-T G.657A1 and A2 are fully compliant with G.652D and offer enhanced, low-loss fiber. Bend-insensitive NDSF is defined in ITU-T G.657, with different minimum bending radii characteristics: G.657A1 (10 µm). When replacing or installing on-premises and access network fiber, we recommend replacing legacy OS1 with a new bend-insensitive OS2 (ITU-T G.657A1) SMF cabling system for longer reach and enhanced link performance.
