Patchcord SC/UPC – SC/UPC 62.5/125 Multimode OM1 Duplex Zip 2.0mm OFNR Orange from Red Cable Technology (RCT) is a Shaxon duplex patch cord for legacy-speed multimode links. It puts high-quality SC/UPC connectors on both ends of 62.5/125 OM1 fiber inside a rugged orange 2.0mm duplex zip cord OFNR jacket — the classic fit for 100 Megabit Ethernet applications.
Features & Specs:
- SC/UPC to SC/UPC duplex patch cord, 62.5/125 multimode OM1
- Rugged orange 2.0mm duplex zip cord jacket — orange is OM1’s typical jacket color
- High-quality SC connectors: snap-in, push-on/pull-off design with a 2.5mm ferrule, much like the ST connector; simple, rugged, low cost, and known for excellent performance
- Polarity clearly marked with yellow polarity labels
- SC connectors ship unclipped, and the clip is included so it can be applied in the field if desired
- OM1 fiber: 62.5 micrometer (µm) core; supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet at lengths up to 33 meters; most commonly utilized for 100 Megabit Ethernet applications
Where multimode fits
Multi-mode fiber is typically cost effective for inside buildings or corporate campuses, while single-mode is better suited for longer distance runs. Single-mode fiber can transmit over greater distances but typically requires more expensive equipment — multi-mode is the cost-effective choice for installations where the lengths do not exceed a few hundred meters. For other ultra-long-distance transmissions that employ exclusively C-band and L-band with optical amplifiers, refer to the ITU-T recommendations for the most appropriate SMF types. And when weighing on-premises and access network fiber replacement or new installation, we highly recommend replacing legacy OS1 with a new bend-insensitive OS2 (ITU-T G.657A1) SMF cabling system to support longer reach with enhanced link performance.
About the standards behind it
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies — ICTs. Founded in 1865 to facilitate international connectivity in communications networks, it allocates global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develops the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strives to improve access to ICTs for underserved communities worldwide.
